Bend Hiking

Bend is an incredible city sitting in the high desert of Central Oregon.  It is a city rich with outdoor recreation, and a young, vibrant, and outdoorsy vibe.  To the west, rise the dramatic Three Sisters --  three peaks all topping 10,000', along with Mt. Bachelor, Broken Top, Mt. Washington, Three Fingered Jack, and Mt. Jefferson.  To the east and south is a sparse landscape of lava flows, cinder cones, and intriguing volcanic landscapes.

The hiking and backpacking around Bend is fantastic, and the city is even better for those who love a wide range of outdoor activities, like mountain biking, climbing, rafting, and winter sports.

Collier Cone

The Collier Cone trail leads to a very impressive viewpoint on the northern flank of the Three Sisters. It makes for a long day hike or nice multi-day backpack, possibly in combination with several other impressive trips in the area. The trail is generally open mid-summer to fall, but check with the rangers to find current trail conditions. We were able to complete this trip in early November, but in most years the trail is probably snowed in at that time.
