Mt. Hood Chapter PCTA Meeting

The Mt. Hood Chapter of the Pacific Crest Trail Association is holding their annual meeting on Saturday, February 4th, which is open to members and non-members of the organization.  They will be presenting their accomplishments and volunteer recognition for the past year, and of course getting attendees excited about upcoming volunteer opportunities along their 221 mile stretch of trail, which runs between Mt. Jefferson and Mt. Adams.

The meeting will also have David Cobb as a guest speaker, who is a professional photographer and has hiked the PCT, as well as other long distance trails throughout the world.  He will be discussing photography and offering advice and help for attendees who want to improve their capabilities.

The meeting will be held at the Clifford Pinchot National Forest headquarters, located at 10600 NE 51st Circle in Vancouver from 1pm to 3pm, Saturday, February 4th. More information about the event can be found here.

Trails Added to National Register of Historic Places

Four trails within Oregon Caves National Monument have been added to the National Register of Historic Places. The historic trails were included due to the historic design principles used by the Civilian Conservation Corps when they were constructed between 1934 and 1941, and which can still be seen today. Designed to blend with the natural environment, the trails also utilize design principles that connect them to the buildings that were also constructed at the monument.

The trails include the Lake Mountain Trail, Big Tree Trail, Cliff Nature Trail, and No Name Trail. The entire national property was added to the National Register in 1992.
