Trinity loop?

Return to Message Board

I recently heard from a fellow hiker that the Trinity Loop in the North Casecades was an excelent backpacking trip. My problem is that I can not find a trail with that specific name. Does anyone know exactly where it is and from what trailhead I can catch this particular loop? The hiker did state that it goes up and down three different passes but I don't remember what the names of the passes were. Any information will help.

I believe this is in reference to a loop trip that begins in the small town (--actually it's just a couple of houses) of Trinity on the eastern edge of the Glacier Peak Wilderness.

It would travel up Buck Creek and over Buck Creek Pass.  It then connects to the PCT for a short distance to Lyman Lake.   You would then travel up this valley alongside the Lyman Glacier and over Spider Gap before dropping into the Phelps Creek Valley and returning to Trinity.  There isn'ta trail over Spyder Gap, but from what I've read, it's not technical or too bad of a route, although since I haven't done this stretch of trail, I can't speak from personal experience.

I believe I have seen this trip described in one of those hiking in the North Cascades books by Ira Spring.
