Directions

Park at Salt Creek Falls Snow Park. It is near MP 58 on Hwy 58 about 20 miles east of Oakridge. You will need to hike back up to Hwy 58, cross it, and then start up the forest service road that is just NE of the snowpark entrance.

Trail Description

Keep hiking North up the service forest road. There are 2 spur roads to the right. Ignore them and continue North. The road will switchback west and then turn for the long uphill eastern trek. This switchback is about 1.5 miles from the parking area. It can be moderate to hard depending on snow conditions. At about 4.4-4.5 miles from the parking lot, there will be a blue sign for SHELTER North of the trail. Proceed down the trail for about 1/4 mile to the shelter. There are many cross country trails and lake areas to explore from the shelter. Most are at higher elevations and on Difficult or Most Difficult rated trails. The shelter has a wood stove and loft that sleeps 4. It is always first come/first served for sleeping in the loft. The bottom is a common area - be ready to share.
