Directions

From Portland take I-84 East towards Mt. Hood to ZigZag National Park (about 15 miles past Sandy, Oregon). Then take a right on the Old Salmon River Rd, travel down that for roughly 5 miles before you read the trailhead, just before a bridge and trailhead should read #742.

Trail Description

A nice weekend hike! First 4 miles are very easy and contain many camp spots along the river. Continue on for another 3 miles up more slopes, nothing too hard. Plenty of stream crossing are made along the way. Once you reach the first trailhead make a left to go 3.5 with 1900 elevation climb. This is the intense part of the climb and is pretty brutal at times.

A little further and youll encounter another trailhead, take a left and you can hike to the top of Devils Peak (5045'). Nice campspots are situated at the top with an incredible view of the land. All-in-all this is a 14 mile hike with plenty of accessible drinking locations (water filter usage of course).
