Trail Description

A real thigh buster that gives you a wonderful veiw of the coastals, Pacific Ocean and cascades on a clear day. The wild flowers in June are outstanding! Most of the trail winds through the forests of the northern oregon coast range with a forest floor of fern, clover and moss.

From the TH hike 0.2 miles and stay to the left when the trail mets the Wilson River Trail which forks to the right. Meander through the woods for about a mile.... then start the relentless climb until you come to a picnic table which is just .3 miles from the summit.

If you are wanting a longer route or even a loop continue from the summit on to Elk Mountian. It is quite a scramble at some spots and not for the faint of heart or the nonathletic hiker. To complete the whole loop is about 12 miles.

Comments

If you start from Kings Mountain Trailhead this is only 5.5 miles round trip, which makes it all the more of a thigh buster, climbing over 3000 feet in less than three miles. I've done this three times. Best in Fall. If you take a dog, there is no water after 1/2 mile. Great views from the coast to Mt. Hood, Jefferson, and others. If you go on a summer day, take sun screen. You are exposed much of the way.
