Trail Description

OKay so I realize this is a small, small hike, but it really hit the spot for us this week. I would suggest doing this hike if you have kiddies, or a rolled ankle like my husband did. Its a very easy hike. We were staying at Redfish Lodge (on Redfish Lake) which is south of Stanley Idaho, in the Sawtooth mountains. On our honeymoon - woohoo! There are many other hikes that start out at Redfish lake if you want something more challenging.

Redfish Lodge runs a shuttle boat to the end of the lake ($15 round trip). The shuttle will take you whenever you want, but you can only get the boat back at certain times throughout the day - i think it was 12:00, 3:00, 5:00 and 7:30. So you get the shuttle to the end of the lake and it drops you off at the Inlet Transfer Camp. A rustic campground with quite a few large sites nestled in the trees along the lake. Walk up past the bathrooms and through the fence to a path that takes you on a footbridge over Redfish Creek. Just continue following this trail - it is pretty well signed too.

Trail takes you uphill to the Lily Pond in .2 mile. From the pond you can hike around its left side and up the creek to a great waterfall in another .2 mile. This is where we turned around (after basking in the cool spray from the waterfall) because of the rolled ankle and all. BUT, if you bushwhack another .2 mile up along the creek you will find another waterfall.

Superb views on the hike up and down. Mount Heyburn (10,229) creates a 2800ft wall above the Lily Pond and Grand Mogul (9,733) is spectacular.
