Directions

Northern Trailhead: From the town of Haines (just north of Baker City) drive west on the Elkhorn Crest Scenic Byway, County Road 1146, which soon becomes Forest Service Road 73. Follow this until reaching Anthony Lake Campground and the trailhead (located on the eastern edge of the campground).

Southern Trailhead: From Baker City, drive west on Pocahontas Road, turning right on Forest Service Road 6510 and follow this for eight miles to the trailhead on the right side of the road.

Trail Description

The Elkhorn Crest Trail stays high along the ridge, giving great views in all directions and sampling this lesser known mountain country. These are the Blue Mountains, but portions appear like the Wallowas to the Northeast with high granite peaks and beautiful lakes.
